William Recce, Principal, School Construction Corporation and Board Member, School-Business Partnerships of Long Island (SBPLI), announced that Plainedge High Robotics Team #527 won the musical theme contest. The team's song, titled "The Power of Five," was chosen as the musical theme for SBPLI's 2010 Long Island Regional FIRST Robotics Competition, which will take place March 25-27 at Hofstra University. The presentation was held at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) kickoff event at Stony Brook University's Javits Center on January 9.

There were 13 entries for this contest. Other teams included Hauppauge, Patchogue-Medford, Comsewogue and The Wheatley School. Both Patchogue-Medford and Comsewogue submitted multiple entries.

The winning entry was chosen by the members of the SBPLI board. Students worked with their mentors on the Robotics team, and even with staff members of the high school's music department. Plainedge will receive a $1,000 check at this year's Long Island Regional FIRST Robotics Competition.
