FIRST Lego League
How to Become a Sponsor

Dear Business and Community Leader;

We would like to invite you to be a sponsor of the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program on Long Island. This wonderful program promotes interest in science and technology among our youth between the ages of 9 and 14. In its 2004/2005 inaugural season on Long Island, there was a wait list for the 20 spots available to Middle Schools interested in participating in the competition. This year, with increased capacity, we expect to double the number of spots available.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) was the brainchild of the well-known inventor and businessman, Dean Kamen. In the FIRST LEGO League, student teams are given two challenges. They must design an autonomous robot that will gather the most points by completing missions on a 4’ x 8’ playing field. They also research and develop a solution to a problem in keeping with the year’s theme: the 2007/2008 theme is "Exploring how energy production and consumption choices affect the planet and our quality of life today, tomorrow, and for future generations."

School-Business Partnerships of Long Island (SBPLI) is a not-for-profit organization that has been uniting schools and businesses for over 20 years. The FIRST programs are the centerpieces of SBPLI’s mission to prepare Long Island’s youth to meet tomorrow’s engineering/technology workforce needs. Since 1999, SBPLI has supported the LI FIRST Robotics Competition for high school students. Last year, we started the LI FIRST LEGO League for middle school students.

We need your support to continue this exciting program. You may download the Sponsorship Levels flyer that shows how you can be recognized for your participation. Your contribution is an investment in the future of Long Island’s youth and tomorrow’s technology workforce. Thank you.

Very truly yours,

Janet Anderson
